WHERE WE WORK
Tanzania is a country in Eastern Africa that is home to natural wonders like Mount Kilimanjaro and Lake Victoria. Although the country is rich in natural resources, poverty in Tanzania persists and, as elsewhere in the world, many children’s rights are not met. Those rights may include food and water, as well as basic services, such as health care and education. In many cases children are deprived of these rights because they live in poor households which do not have enough income to afford basic goods or services.
OUR WORK IN SONGEA
Songea Town is in the south west of Tanzania around 1000 kilometres from the port city of Dar es Salaam.
We support children and families living in Ruvuma ward about an hour's walk from the town centre. Ruvuma has a population of around 27,000 people and is one of the poorest communities in the area - with some earning less than 50 pence per day. Many of the houses are in poor condition without access to electricity or running water.
We work with the local community to develop initiatives that make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children, young people and carers.
